TSI Math Boot Camp

The Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) department at Grayson College will host a TSI Math Boot Camp Oct. 30 through Nov. 16. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

TSI Math Boot Camp will be taught through a combination of online and face-to-face classes that will be held on the college's Denison campus in the Advanced Technology and Adult Eduction building.

Classes are $99 or FREE if attendees do not miss two or more classes. The course will also provide a free TSI math test to attendees.

"Students who plan to take the TSI before the spring semester or students who took the test previously but failed the math portion are strongly encouraged to attend," said Chris Voss, AEL Data Analyst at Grayson.

The TSI Assessment (TSIA) is part of the Texas Success Initiative program designed to help colleges determine if students are ready for college-level course work in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. Incoming college students in Texas are required to prove readiness for college-level work, and that often involves taking the TSI Assessment. Based on performance, students may either be enrolled in a college-level course and/or be placed in the appropriate developmental course or intervention to improve skills.

"If students score below a certain level on the math section of the TSIA, they have to take and pass development math at Grayson prior to taking any other math classes for their major." said Voss. "By enrolling in the TSI Boot Camp, they can hopefully pass the TSIA and skip developmental math, which saves students time and money."

To learn more about the TSIA, see the information provided here http://www.collegeforalltexans.com/index.cfm?objectid=63176344-FFFA-217B-60C9A0E86629B3CA on the College for All Texans site. It will fully explain the intent, test and exceptions.
